Soft Ukemi is a relatively new aspect/progression in Aikido development. It was largely created by Donovan Waite, Shihan (Aikikai) and then expanded on by Frank Ostoff (Aikikai).
We need to remember Shihan’s wise words above ~ when we resist the desire to add to our martial abilities. Our consideration of Soft Ukemi (a component part) does not change our art ~ it unifies opposites into oneness and allows uke another option (most likely a preferred option) to secure his own safety.
I hope these videos will hopefully serve to begin a conversation on the prospect of employment. I propose the consideration/dissemination of this skill in a continuing education workshop/ seminar format.
